The Vice President of Programming and Marketing at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, Aaron Zimmerman always knew his passion was to work in the entertainment industry with a specific career goal of a job in the live events sector. The path that lead him to booking performances at The Tobin Center started in college and has been an interesting , fun and successful one at that.
In 1998, as a freshman at the University Maryland at College Park, Zimmerman was the Student Director of concerts on campus and an intern for Cellar Door (now known as Live Nation).
In 2002 he graduated with a degree in the Business of Music and moved on to New York City, where working with live events became even more of a reality as he took a position of the day-to-day manager of such acts as Gloria Gaynor, The Duke Ellington Orchestra and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas Zimmerman then moved to Chicago taking a position Jam Production / Theatricals as their Talent Buyer and Promoter. Here his responsibilities included booking 36 Broadway subscriptions across the country, and booking Chicago based concerts that featured Adult Contemporary music artists.
After 4 years in Chicago, his career path took him to Miami where he was hired as the Director Programming at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. This position gave him a more defined career direction honing his skills as an In-House Building Promoter and Talent Buyer.
After Miami, he continued to follow his passion of programming with positions that included the Director of Programming at the David A. Straz Center in Tampa, and working for the owner of the NHL’s Florida Panthers as The Executive Director of
Entertainment at The BB&T Center in Ft. Lauderdale.
At the Tobin Center, Zimmerman is responsible for booking every show that has graced the stage of both H-E-B Performance Hall and the Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater. These acts have included Paul McCartney, Lionel Richie, Ringo Starr, Santana, Jason Mraz,
John Mellencamp, Harry Connick Jr, and Billy Idol. He’s added Duran Duran, Culture Club and Kraftwerk to the list of exciting Tobin acts that have performed to sold-out crowds. In addition to the Tobin presents concerts and artists in the Tobin Studio
Sessions, Zimmerman also books all the theatrical productions that make up the Tobin EDGE Series, the Tobin Dance Series and the BMW of San Antonio Signature Series.
In 2016 Zimmerman stepped up his role of bringing great acts to San Antonio as the Talent Buyer for the 2017 Maverick Music Festival, which successful entertained thousands with national acts such as Bastille, Young the Giant, De La Soul, The Naked and Famous and more.
